Suburban, Spark EV Also Honored
It's been a tough couple of weeks for the General, but there is some good news about the 2014 Chevy Silverado HD—and in fact, the whole Chevy Truck lineup—from the team at Vincentric. According to that popular third-party source for data about vehicle ownership costs, the Silverado 2500 is the Best Overall Value of the Year (BOVY) in the "Full Size 3/4-ton Heavy Duty, Pickup" class. And that, in turn, helped the division as a whole win the BOVY as the nation's top truck brand.
Per Vincentric editors: "Riding the great value of its full-size pickup lineup, Chevrolet earned the Vincentric Best Value Truck Brand award for 2014. Although there was close competition through the various pickup segments, Chevrolet earned the Best Value claim due to strength in the full-size pickup lineup, led by the 3/4-ton Silverado 2500HD with strong results from the 1500 and 3500HD as well."
The annual BOVY report, which was first released in 2004, rates vehicles based on a variety of ownership-cost measures, including vehicle depreciation, fees/taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity costs, and repairs. As for the 2014 Chevy Silverado HD, it stood out from the crowd with both the lowest repair costs in the segment and the lowest ownership costs in total. It had Bowtie company on the BOVY list, too: Along with the 2014 Chevy Silverado HD, the current Chevy Suburban earned the top spot in the Large SUV segment, thanks to particularly low depreciation, fuel costs and insurance rates.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Chevy Spark EV garnered acclaim as the Best Overall Value among Electric/Plug-in Hybrid Cars, with Vincentric calling out its low fixed and operating costs.
