Introduction of Red Bull as Title Sponsor, Schedule, $500k Points Fund
Global Rallycross has been steadily developing a foothold in the motorsports arena for the past three years and this year could be their breakout thanks to some important changes. The most prominent change is the introduction of title sponsor Red Bull. This addition will not only add some weight to the Global Rallycross brand, it will also bring the series to new venues and enhance the experience of being at the events.
The second change is the introduction of a $500,000 points fund, which gives drivers competing in the 2014 season a chance to win as much as $20,000 for a race victory.
"We are excited to announce that drivers will compete for half a million dollars over the course of the upcoming Red Bull Global Rallycross season. The increased payouts should see drivers battling even harder for race victories and the series championship," said Red Bull Global Rallycross CEO Colin Dyne.
The last change deals with the schedule. The number of Global Rallycross events have grown from nine events last year to ten this year. Most of the events are standalone, aside from XGames in Austin, TX in June and the Barbados event. The latter is particularly exciting as it will see Global Rallycross team up with The Stig and the Top Gear Live Stunt Driving Team for an epic performance. Unfortunately, those hoping for a return of Global Rallycross to Brazil or Barcelona will be disappointed as ESPN cancelled all of its international X Games due to financial reasons late last year.
The schedule is as followes:
