For 2014 the Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with the new EcoDiesel engine. This engine is a 3.0l turbocharged 60 degree V6 with a compacted graphite iron block and aluminum dual overhead cam cylinder heads. The diesel has a 15.5:1 compression ratio and uses ceramic glow plugs for quick starts, a downstream urea injection to lower NOx emissions, and clean-diesel technology to deliver low C02 emissions. Combined with the ZF-designed 8-speed automatic transmission the Jeep achieves best in class fuel economy of up to 30 mpg on the highway, and has a range of 730 miles on a single tank of diesel. The EcoDiesel makes 240 HP and an enormous 420 lb-ft of torque (30 more than the available 5.7l V8) providing a best in class towing capacity of up to 7,400 pounds (the same rating as the HEMI).
