The 2025 Ford Expedition enters its fifth generation with a bold new look, updated technology, and the new adventure-ready Tremor trim. It offers twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine options with room for up to eight passengers and a towing capacity of up to 9,600 pounds, making it ideal for large families.
It also shows off new features including a split tailgate and sliding center console along with the latest version of BlueCruise technology. Available in Active, Tremor, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, it’s ready for daily life and weekend adventures.
The 2025 Expedition grabs your attention with a big, bold design. The new front fascia, with double-stacked headlights and a wide grille accented by a light strip, adds a hint of sophistication to this impressive vehicle. At 209.9 inches long (221.7 for the Max), the Expedition is not small. You can choose from wheels as small as 18 inches to as large as 24 inches, including striking 24-inch Dark Tarnished Metallic rims on the Platinum trim, which add even more personality.
The new split tailgate is a standout feature. It features an upper liftgate and fold-down lower tailgate that can support up to 500 pounds. This unique design ensures small cargo like groceries stays secure. There’s also a shelf that doubles as a table and morphs into a backrest for comfortable tailgating. Power-deployable running boards make getting in effortless, and 360-degree zone lighting makes nighttime adventures easier.

The Expedition’s cabin is well-suited to family life. Available leather-trimmed seats and a 10-way power driver’s seat make road trips comfortable, while the third row’s 40/20/40 split bench preserves two seats while folding one for stowing long cargo. The second row’s optional captain’s chairs add comfort, especially for older kids or adults.
The Ford Digital Experience includes a 24-inch panoramic display and a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. It features Google Maps as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Instead of a rear-seat infotainment system, the backs of the front headrests have built-in device holders. These can hold a smartphone or tablet either horizontally or vertically to keep the kids entertained. There’s up to 108.5 cubic feet of cargo space and a maximum tow rating of up to 9,600 pounds for carrying everyone’s stuff.
We drove the Expedition Tremor through an off-road course that included lots of slick mud thans to a heavy rain, steep hills and descents, and tight turns. It was surprising just how easy it was to manage such a big vehicle in tight confines. There’s a high-output 3.5-liter V6 with 440 horsepower, standard four-wheel drive, an electronic-locking differential, and multiple drive modes to accommodate all kinds of terrain. A10.6-inch ground clearance and 33-inch all-terrain tires round out the Tremor.
Off-road features including Trail Turn Assist and Trail 1-Pedal Drive make getting through the trickiest terrain easier. Novices will find the Expedition easy to manage as they develop their skills, while veteran off-roaders will find it lets you relax and enjoy the adventure.

The Expedition is big, and you feel its size, but it’s not a difficult SUV to manage. It has responsive steering with a unique steering wheel that’s flattened on the top and bottom to make seeing the panoramic screen easy. It takes a little getting used to but quickly becomes intuitive.
Though this is never going to feel sporty, there is a Sport drive mode that sharpens the throttle and handling, making winding roads fun to drive instead of daunting. The ride is also quiet, especially on the highway, with the sound and vibration from rough pavement largely muted. It’s a great choice for road trips whether you’re the driver or kids napping in the back.
Power for the Expedition comes from a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Optional is a high-output version of that engine with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Both are paired to a 10-speed automatic that shifts seamlessly. We drove the Expedition with the high-output engine, and it made short work of moving this big SUV.
It was easy to merge into high-speed traffic without feeling like the engine was being pushed too hard. It was also quiet, which is something crucial when you have kids napping in the back rows. There was plenty of power for passing slower vehicles, too, making it a great highway cruiser.
Safety comes courtesy of Co-Pilot360 2.0, which is standard across the full lineup. It includes a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage to provide comprehensive protection. Pre-Collision Assist, Intersection Assist, and Reverse Brake Assist are also included.
Further enhancing confidence, the available Ford BlueCruise hands-free driving system offers a 90-day trial or one-year subscription, enabling relaxed highway journeys. Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist and Backup Assist simplify maneuvering, making every drive intuitive. With these advanced technologies, the Expedition creates a sanctuary that lets families focus on the joy of the journey.

Ford’s BlueCruise 1.4, available on nearly 90% of Expeditions, offers handsfree driving. Covering 130,000 miles of North American roads, this isn’t a self-driving technology but rather a driver assist feature. The driver still needs to pay attention and be ready to take over, and it will prompt you to do in certain scenarios.
It includes automatic lane changes after you tap the turn signal and in-lane repositioning that gently nudges the Expedition away from large vehicles. BlueCruise integrates with the 24-inch display to clearly communicate when it's available and when it needs you to take over. Overall, BlueCruise makes long road trips easier for the driver to manage.

The 2025 Expedition is available in four trims. There’s Active at $62,000, Platinum at $74,430, Tremor at $81,030, and King Ranch at $83,655. Features including the split tailgate, 24-inch panoramic display screen, and 360-degree zone lighting are standard. As you move up the trim range, leather seats, a sliding center console, and additional comfort features become standard.
The new Tremor is designed for families looking for more rugged adventures. It includes 33-inch all terrain tires, a locking rear differential the high-output engine, unique Electric Spice accents, Trail One Pedal Drive, and Trail Turn Assist. It’s the trim to pick for families who like adventures in the wild.

The 2025 Ford Expedition blends rugged capability with family-friendly sophistication. The spit tailgate and digital device holders make everyday life easier to manage, while BlueCruise makes driving less tiresome on long trips. The new Tremor trim with its responsive high-output 3.5-liter V6 engine is a welcome addition for off-road adventurers.
Though its size can be a challenge in tight spaces and make it less than ideal on tight city streets, the Expedition’s smooth ride and intuitive technology make every drive a pleasure. Its features, capability, comfort, and style make it a great choice for families who need plenty of room for everyone and everything.
