Hyundai is giving the hybrid midsize sedan another try with the introduction of the 2016 Sonata Hybrid. Compared to the standard Sonata, the Hybrid version features a new grille, wheels wrapped in low-rolling resistance tires, and tweaks to the rear. Power comes from a 2.0L GDI four-cylinder paired with a 38 kW electric motor that produces a total of 193 horsepower, and a new lithium-polymer battery pack boasts a 13 percent improvement in overall capacity. The most important figures for the Sonata Hybrid are related to fuel economy, and the EPA rates the 2016 Sonata Hybrid at 40mpg City, 44mpg Highway, and 40mpg combined.
Competitors to the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid include the Ford Fusion Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Toyota Camry Hybrid.
