Hey, it's National Drive Electric Week this week, and as you might have guessed, Nissan—the automaker behind the 2015 Nissan LEAF EV—has signed on as the exclusive automotive sponsor of the program. Organized by Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association, the annual celebration will encompass more than 130 grassroots events this year, both in the United States and around the globe. Uncoincidentally, the 2015 Nissan LEAF also happens to be the best-selling electric vehicle both in the United States and around the globe.

The story is told by Toby Perry, Nissan's director of Electric Vehicle Marketing: "With more than 60,000 U.S. sales and 50 percent market share among pure EVs this year, Nissan is the natural sponsor of National Drive Electric Week. At events across the country, drivers of the Nissan LEAF and other electric cars will get together to spread the word about the benefits of driving electric—lower operating costs, zero tailpipe emissions and they are just fun to drive."

Getting down to brass tacks here, the 2015 Nissan LEAF provides those advantages along with:

  • 84 miles of all-electric, zero-emissions driving range
  • Efficiency grades of 126 MPGe city/101 MPGe highway/114 MPGe combined
  • MSRPs that start at $29,010 and net pricing as low as $21,510 (after a $7,500 federal tax credit)
  • An available quick-charge port that can power up the 2015 Nissan LEAF in fewer than 30 minutes

But it's not just the performance of the 2015 Nissan LEAF that makes it an ideal choice to spearhead the Drive Electric sponsorship. It's what real-world drivers think of that performance.

Added Perry: "LEAF owners have become our most effective marketers. Their enthusiasm for their LEAF and its benefits drives family, friends and co-workers to consider and purchase one for themselves. This has a viral effect, where one LEAF sale in a neighborhood or office often triggers several additional sales."
