The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible extends the sports car supremacy of the recently-introduced C7 Z06 into the open air universe. Aimed at hardcore track-driving enthusiasts, the new convertible doesn’t compromise on any of the performance offered by the coupe version of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, while adding in a top-down driving experience that allows it to rival more exotic fare from Maranello. It’s also one of the most aggressive-looking ‘verts ever produced, and it adds a dimension to the Corvette line-up that moves past the convertible’s traditional cruiser image.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible is an all-new model, but it’s also a dead-ringer for the Z06 coupe, minus its roof. This similarity is significant because it extends even to the car’s curb weight, which almost perfectly matches that of its hardtop counterpart – an unusual bonus in the world of cross-braced, heavy convertibles. In fact, the C7 Z06 convertible claims a structure that is 20% more rigid than the departed C6 Z06 coupe.
Chevrolet boasts that the Corvette Z06 convertible will sprint to 60-mph in less than 3.5 seconds, which seems completely reasonable given its 625 horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. The Z06 convertible will also come with the same optional aero packages and interior appointments that can be found with the coupe, as well as the choice between either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible is the king of drop-top Vettes, past and present. The hyper-aggressive styling of the coupe translates very well to the convertible, and the fact that Chevrolet has been able to preserve the car’s handling dynamics, low-mass design, and stupendous acceleration vaults it to the front of the affordable sports car pack. With no roadster version of cross-town rival Viper on the horizon, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible seems poised to soak up the dollars of those seeking the ultimate in high horsepower bragging rights.
