Volkswagen and Audi TDI Models Top 100K Sales
2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
With the 2014 VW Jetta TDI leading the way, the Volkswagen Group of America—including Audi—has topped the 100,000-sales mark for the very first time in this country with its clean diesel vehicles. Volkswagen actually has the two best-selling diesel vehicles in the country, as the Jetta TDi had earned 41,089 sales through the end of November, and the VW Passat TDI had tallied 32,754 deliveries during that time.
With just a few days of sales remaining in the 2013 selling season, Scott Keogh, president of Audi of America noted: “The past year has shown that American consumers clearly recognize the benefits of clean diesel TDI vehicles. They understand now more than ever that this is a technology delivering real answers to society’s concerns about fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions without compromises.”
In fact, per data from Volkswagen, its clean-diesel collection achieves gains of up to 30 percent in fuel economy as compared to traditional gasoline engines, while further reducing carbon-dioxide emissions by 12 to 30 percent. Of course, also helping diesel sales this year is the ever-growing number of TDI choices. Counting the 2014 VW Jetta TDI, Volkswagen and Audi now combine to offer a full dozen models with the automaker’s clean diesel technology, including automatically transmissioned entries like:
And remember, the current Audi TDI products all feature quattro all-wheel-drive technology, and they’ll be joined next year by a new Audi A3 sedan that will be the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the brand’s lineup.
Added Mark McNabb, chief operating officer for Volkswagen of America: “Selling more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles is a significant milestone for Volkswagen Group of America. We’re excited to see the increasing numbers of customers able to enjoy the reliability, durability, fuel-efficiency and power of the clean diesel engine.”
