2014 Infiniti Q50 at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show

Late in 2012, Infiniti made a huge announcement. The company announced they would be changing their naming system from G, M, QX, FX, JX, and EX to Q(insert number here) as a way to clear up the confusion for customers when the vehicles would be sold worldwide. The first model to get new naming was the replacement for the G sedan, called the Q50, shown at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The Q50’s exterior design shares many cues with the larger M sedan. The front end has a large trapezoidal grille and fluidic lines running along the hood. The side profile continues with the fluidic lines and a unique crescent-shaped C-pillar. The new shape is longer, wider, lower, and more aerodynamic (0.26 drag coefficient) than the outgoing G sedan. Inside the Q50, the center stack features Infiniti's new InTouch system that uses two touchscreens to control audio, climate, navigation, and other functions. Under the hood is either a 3.7L V6 carried over from the G37 producing 328 horsepower and 269 pound feet of torque, or a new Hybrid that pairs a 3.5L V6 with an electric motor producing a total output of 354 horsepower. Both powertrains use a seven-speed automatic transmission.
