Hyundai’s gained some accolades for the entry-level luxury Genesis, and the company seems to have taken that as a sign to fill out the sedan lineup. The 2014 Hyundai Azera slots into Hyundai’s model family above the mid-size Sonata and just below the full-size Genesis. In terms of looks, the upscale-looking Azera fits right in, making the most of its telltale Hyundai styling cues and attention to detail. But in such a crowded lineup, what else does this model have to offer? Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, Chris Wardlaw, put a 2014 Hyundai Azera Limited through its paces. Equipped with the Premium package, Autobytel’s test car rang up at about $38,000, and includes 19-inch aluminum wheels, reverse sensors, and a power panoramic sunroof. All 2014 Azera models are front-wheel-drive and are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. This drivetrain produces 293 horsepower and is rated by the EPA for 23 MPG in combined driving. However, Autobytel’s test results came closer to 21 MPG, even though it was mostly on the highway and in Eco driving mode. A roomy trunk offers plenty of space and fold-down rear seats offer flexibility. The spacious and comfortable cabin is full of soft-touch materials and surprising details, which helps the Azera feel like a really good value.
