What’s next for the Autobytel Mystery Car series? A sleek red Fisker Karma four-door coupe. David Harris from Fisker Automotive showed up at the Autobytel offices to explain why the Fisker Karma is unique, even among the narrow playing field of high-end electric cars. The curvaceous exterior gives way to a sumptuous cabin, outfitted in high-end leather upholstery. The two-tone, brown and caramel interior is hand-crafted and uses 85% percent of the cow’s hide. The cabin’s wood accents are certified recycled, in the sense that they come from trees that have sunken into the Great Lakes, are salvaged from California wildfires, or reclaimed from fallen trees in the forest. Fisker works with the unique texture and color of each piece of reclaimed wood to optimize its natural beauty in the car. The exterior paint is water-based, to reduce usage of dangerous chemicals, and features a unique glossy and reflective layer to capture the feeling of motion. The Fisker Karma uses a solar panel in the roof to capture and store the sun’s energy to help power the motors. The Fisker Karma is driven by two motors and a direct injected turbocharged engine that use power from lithium-ion batteries. This drivetrain provides instant feedback to throttle input, without any turbo lag, and is emission free.
