Convertible Production to Begin Late this Year
There’s big news for drivers who can’t wait to get their hands on a 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray: You have to.
That’s because the first coupe models still haven’t quite made it to dealerships, although they have begun their journey. In fact, roughly 1,000 examples of the brand-new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray recently left the longtime home of the car—GM’s Bowling Green Assembly in Kentucky—and are expected to actually hit dealer lots “within the next few weeks” according to the brand. And for those who are curious, Chevrolet may start shipping them out of their build-sequence order, which Chevy points out is standard operating procedure during the launch of any new vehicle—even if the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray isn’t just “any” new vehicle.
As folks may recall, the standard seventh-generation Corvette coupe is the most capable one ever, thanks to a new 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine that produces 455 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque right from the factory; add the Z51 package, with a performance exhaust system, and the numbers go up to 460/465. At that stage, the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray achieves the following performance benchmarks:
But the same high-tech powerplant that enables that kind of performance also will return EPA ratings of up to 17 mpg city/29 mpg highway/21 mpg combined with its seven-speed manual transmission. No other car in the country can deliver more than 455 horses and better than 29 mpg from the same engine. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe will be priced from $51,995, including destination charges, with the convertible model—slated to start production before the end of the year—to be stickered from $56,995, again including destination charges.
Prospective owners of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray also can look forward to an announcement later this month regarding a new batch of delivery programs that will provide back-stage access to both Bowling Green Assembly and the nearby National Corvette Museum.
