The big reveal at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show was the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette. The seventh-generation model resurrects the hallowed Stringray nameplate that was last seen on the third-generation Corvette. From a styling perspective, the Corvette Stingray is much more muscular than the outgoing C6 Corvette, with sharp creases, unique rear end styling, and a carbon-fiber roof panel. Inside, Chevrolet has made some big changes for the Corvette Stringray. There is a choice of two different seats, a revised center stack, and a unique setup for the gauge cluster.
Under the hood is a brand new 6.2L LT1 V8 engine producing 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. You have the choice between a six-speed automatic or a seven-speed manual transmission. The run up to 60 MPH takes just under four seconds. Other changes under the skin include a new aluminum frame that helps drop 99 pounds and increase the rigidity of the Corvette Stingray. The Corvette Stringray will also have a Drive Mode Selector that allows drivers to pick from five different settings. Whatever setting the driver picks, the system will then change twelve different functions including throttle, active fuel management, steering effort, exhaust note, stability control and traction control.
Chevrolet will also offer a Z51 Performance Package that adds a number of performance parts like functional cooling ducts built into the aerodynamics, an Electronic Limited Slip Differential, a Dry-Sump Oil System, and larger wheels. Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, Benjamin Hunting, gives us a walk around of the next-generation Corvette.
