Luxury manufacturers usually offer two different wheelbase options on their flagship sedans: the short-wheelbase and long-wheelbase. Audi is no exception and offers the A8 in both wheelbases. The one we’re taking a look at today is the long-wheelbase A8, called the A8L.
The A8L shares many of the design cues seen on the A8. There is a large front grille, LED headlights and taillights, and a very distinctive profile. The only difference between the A8 and A8L is its length. Compared to the A8, the A8L is about 5.2 inches longer. You’ll notice the extra length when you hop into the back seat and find an abundance of room. You can order either a Rear Seat Comfort Package (available on the A8L 3.0T and 4.0T) or the Executive Rear Seat Comfort Package (available on the A8L 4.0T and W12) which adds more comfort for passengers. Other than that, the A8L’s interior is much like the normal A8 with leather, wood trim, and an abundance of tech.
Under the hood of the A8L, you have the choice of three different engines:
All engines come equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
EPA rates the 2013 A8L at:
An A8L will set you back $78,500 for the 3.0T V6, $87,200 for the 4.0T V8, and $134,500 for the W12. Competitors to the 2013 Audi A8L include the BMW 7-Series, Lexus LS460 L, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
