Already doing about 80, I flicked the Cayenne’s Tiptronic gear lever over to manual and then kicked down to third gear. The roar of approval from the four-pipe exhaust was thrilling but nothing compared to the surge in power when I pushed the accelerator and upshifted via the paddles on the steering wheel. In a moment, I was traveling more than 130 mph. It happened as fast as it takes to read that last sentence, and the tingling of unleashed adrenaline remained for a long time afterwards. It was a dramatic moment for me, but the 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S seemed not to notice – just another moment in the life of an incredible piece of machinery.
