TO THE POINT What’s New? The 2007 Mercedes-Benz GL450 is an all-new, seven-seat SUV that rides on the same platform as the Mercedes ML- and R-Class models, but has true off-road capability. Mercedes says it’s got the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator in its sights.
Selling Points: Class IV towing capability; Refined ride and handling; Capable V8 engine; Luxurious interior; Techno-savvy gadgets
Deal Breakers: Size-wise, the GL doesn’t stack up against its big-box competitors; Dreamy drive turns to high seas hi-jinks in the twisties.
Our Advice: Try the GL450 if you aspire to own a vehicle with the three-pointed star and need to accommodate more than five riders for off-road adventures.
