Somewhere along the way, someone became convinced that coupes and hatchbacks were eroding from the American car scene. We'd beg to differ. The 2007 Pontiac G5 Coupe enters a field already filled by the Chevrolet Cobalt, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Tiburon, and the Mini Cooper. Pontiac's little two-door also competes with the four-banger version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Scion tC, the reintroduced Volkswagen Rabbit, and when it arrives on these shores, the Opel-sourced Saturn Astra. That list doesn't even take into consideration marginal contenders such as the Honda Accord Coupe and upcoming Nissan Altima Coupe, each of which teeters on the G5's class when outfitted with four-cylinder engines, but move up and away when running on six cylinders.
