Volvo names the heavy hitters from Germany and Japan as the Volvo S80’s primary competitors. Of those, we’d say the Acura RL and Audi A6 are the closest matches in terms of price, features, and drivetrain layout. However, do not discount the Volkswagen Passat. Sure, the VeeDub is not as refined as the Volvo and feels cheaper from the driver’s seat, but in terms of dynamics, interior design, and seat comfort the Volvo S80 strongly reminded me of a loaded Passat 3.6 which, by the way, is also available with navigation and Dynaudio speakers.
