There’s no truth to the rumors that U2’s famed guitarist will be involved in an ad campaign to promote Ford’s newest vehicle. Maybe he should be.
It may be good for his image, after all, as the 2007 Ford Edge is no less the automaker’s crossover-in-waiting and hope of hopes for future sales in a booming segment. As such the Edge is especially important to Ford, because of a few rumors that do happen to be true: the all-new Ford Explorer is rusting on dealer lots, the Escape is losing its charm to a multitude of import crossover vehicles, and the Ford Freestyle – a capable if boring and underpowered crossover – failed to attract attention. That’s where the Edge comes in, and if all of Ford’s new cars have the show floor potential of the Edge, the company can expect to see some nice, robust sales. Stylish, powerful, and modern, the Edge puts Ford in the crossover game – and gives dealers a modern crossover bookend to the Fusion mid-sized sedan.
