"The reason we went for the hybrid was so that the wife could use the HOV lanes (by herself) for commuting. Being greener is a nice side benefit but it doesn't make economic sense. The hybrid drive system is a little strange at first but you get used to it quickly. The brakes also have slightly different feel and smooth stops are not quite as easy as other cars, but you adjust to that pretty quickly as well. Acceleration is very good, it has plenty of power. Handling is pretty good, not great. We traded a 2002 Audi S6 which is a beast with loads of power (it's capable of doing 155) and a sport suspension with excellent handling for a big wagon. The ride is outstanding, much more comfortable than the Audi on a bumpy road. It's also extremely quiet except under heavy acceleration (not needed often) where the gas engine makes a fair amount of noise. At average highway speeds it's nearly silent. Interior comfort and convenience are superior, best of any car we've owned. Nav system works very well and the Bluetooth speaker phone works great. Audio and climate control are also handled by the Nav screen."

" Comfort is King as the RX350 soaks up noise and bumps putting the driver and passengers in a leather and birds-eye walnut paneled library. Straight line performance is fine for a two ton cross-over. That weight can be felt in hard corners but that is not the point.
The point is that you arrive safe and relaxed at your destination. Four people sit in wide comfortable seats though there could be an adjustment of the seat bottom to support the longer legged among us. The fifth person has to make due with a folded up arm-rest for support and would likely be complaining by the 100 mile mark.
Lexus is well known for quality made in Japan but time will tell if the Canadian plant lives up to that reputation. I don't detect any squeaks or rattles after 600 miles. All of the many sub-systems have held up to repeated demonstrations and the stereo seems louder than the 132 claimed watts. I don't know how loud it goes at maximum becuase I can only tolerate so much.
While the '08 is scheduled for a re-design next model year, it is still nice to look at from outside and especially inside.
Overall, I'm glad my wife talked me up from the Hylander that I was eyeballing. If I had to say something negative, it would be that the voice recognition doesn't understand me about 1/2 the time. "
