"I have owned a 2006 Explorer XLT with the 4.6L V8 engine and 3 rows of seats for 2 months now. I was impressed from the first time I drove the car. It was far beyond my expectations. I was amazed that a body on frame 'truck' could be so quiet, smooth and effortless to drive. This rides better and is quieter that the Lexus SUVs I have tried. A coworker of mine who is a European car fan was also amazed at how quite and smooth the ride is. Yet there is plenty of power with a nice growl from the V8 when needed. I have had seven adults fit comfortable in it. Even the 6 foot guy in the 3rd row said it was surprisingly roomy. I was aware of the unusual door pulls before I looked at the car and despite my concerns I don't even notice them now. I have had no problems with the fit, finish and quality of the construction so far. Out of all of the SUVs that I have owned this is by far the best. "

"I really enjoy the updated seating and interior. Ford plans to fix the door handle placement next year. I am getting used to it. The ride is nice and interior is quiet. I have a boat and a camper. The Explorer tows well. I found that several SUV's were built on a car chassis. I shopped foreign and domestic vehicles. This vehicle is the best 'Utility vehicle for the price.' The engineering of the frame and suspension cannot be matched."

"Slight stumble on initial cold drive off. Fuel economy fair to poor in city (12 mpg) and sub-par on Hwy (17). However, this is a sweet vehicle to drive. Very comfortable and handles well for a relatively large vehicle. Gripes - turn signal/wiper stalk is way too high to reach. Idiotic placement of door unlock and door pull handles make for problems when trying to catch a door that suddenly swings open. Dash is too flat, reflects on windshield. Other than that I'm really enjoying this SUV."

"Good power for towing and merging plus surprisingly good gas mileage(almost 22 mpg on a recent trip) for a vehicle with 295 horsepower. The power fold flat rear seat is a neat option."

"This is my third Explorer and overall I happy with my purchase. I've owned 1997 and 2000 Explorer's prior to this 2006. The best features noted are the improved ride, acceleration and handling. The features which have not been improved or are a step backwards are worse gas mileage, moved controls for 4X4 to the lower center dash and on the passenger side, (prefer left side of steering wheel), driver storage (moved shift lever to console which took away console shelf space) smaller glove compartment, higher step up and loss of rear and passenger side vision due to higher seat backs. The feature which needs change or should be eliminated from an option is the finish on the chrome wheels. This premium wheel (std Limited opt on EB) is coated with a chrome film which peels if cut (carwash or tire change). I like the explorer but do have concerns whether I made a smart purchase. "
