What's New for the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe?
The big news for the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe is the addition of a standard tire pressure monitoring system. Also, the XM satellite radio and OnStar telematics systems share an antenna this year. A flexible-fuel model is also offered for 2006, available across the lineup. A redesigned 2007 Chevy Tahoe is expected to arrive in the spring.

Advantages of the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe:

  • Optional StabiliTrak stability control system
  • Available rear DVD entertainment system
  • Available adjustable foot pedals
  • Powerful V8 engines
  • Plenty of space for five passengers and cargo

Objections to the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe:

  • Front seat comfort could be improved
  • Interior materials look and feel inexpensive

Editor's Advice:
Since the current generation Chevy Tahoe was introduced in 1999, the popular SUV has seen minor updates over the years, but nothing significant enough to keep it at the top of the heap. The Tahoe's standard 4.8-liter engine provides decent power, but lacks the grunt found in the Nissan Armada's stump-pulling 5.6-liter V8. An optional load-leveling suspension, when coupled with the trailer tow package, makes the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe a valuable tool at the boat launch ramp or for pulling a trailer of toys. The interior looks dated but is comfortable, though even with the eight-way-power adjustable captain's chairs some drivers may find it difficult to reach a relaxed seating position. Rear passengers will find a decent amount of space, except those with long legs. Unlike its bigger brother, the Chevrolet Suburban, the 2006 Chevy Tahoe competes against formidable entries from Dodge, Ford, Honda, Nissan and Toyota. Stacked up against these newer trucks, the Tahoe's appeal fades except for continually available rebates and low-interest financing. Don't fail to shop around first unless you're a die-hard Chevy fan.
