What's New for the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
The lineup of Chevrolet Malibus expands slightly for 2006. There's a new SS trim available and it comes with a 240-horsepower, 3.9-liter V6. The existing trim levels have also been renamed: last year's base model is now the LS, the former LS is now the LT and the LT becomes the LTZ. Other minor changes to the Malibu this year include a new front-end appearance and wheels, updated interior trim pieces, a four-spoke steering wheel and child-proof door locks for the rear doors.

The family sedan market has become so competitive and so mature that even the cars at the back of the pack are still pretty darn good. There's a lot to like about the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. It has powerful and fuel-efficient drivetrains, high safety scores and fairs well in terms of value. The downside is that it's not as refined as stalwarts like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry and it's missing some of the more upscale features like navigation. But if you just need dependable and affordable family transportation, the Malibu will serve you well.
