What's New for the 2005 Volvo S60? Subtle restyling produces a cleaner appearance front and rear, thanks to body color trim, redesigned lights, and new wheel selections. Models with turbocharged engines can be equipped with an optional Sport Body package for a racier look, and the S60 R's Four-C active chassis is available on turbo models, too. The S60 T5 gets a power boost to 260 horsepower, and is endowed with the same six-speed manual transmission from the S60 R. Inside, a redesigned center console with better cupholders and storage areas is added, and the traditionally superior seats are redesigned for even more comfort and support. Later in the model year, Volvo's new Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) will be available. BLIS monitors the S60's blind spots and sounds a warning if you signal and another vehicle is in the lane next to you. Advantages of the 2005 Volvo S60:
- Comfortable front seats
- Long list of standard safety equipment
- Available all-wheel-drive
- New Blind Spot Information System
Objections to the 2005 Volvo S60: - Limited rear seat room
- Slightly downmarket interior materials
- Lacks ability to match German rivals in terms of luxury and performance
Editor's Advice: To our eyes, the 2005 Volvo S60 is one of the most attractive luxury-sport sedans on the road. However, it lacks the dynamic refinement and performance of true luxury vehicles, continuing to rely instead on its extensive safety engineering and world-class seat comfort as its primary selling points. Better than ever, and equipped later this year with a new technology that monitors blind spots on the sides of the car, the 2005 Volvo S60 is worth consideration if you value safety and comfort over refinement and performance.
