What's New for the 2005 Honda Pilot?
The 2005 Honda Pilot gets a boost in power, its 3.5-liter V6 now carrying drive-by-wire technology and making 255 horsepower. Other enhancements include a new fuel tank design that adds an additional 40 miles of range, a new tire pressure monitoring system, and a driver's dead pedal. Pilot EX models equipped with leather benefit from standard Vehicle Stability Assist, an improved sunroof design with a wind deflector, and a new instrument panel with ambient lighting. Pilot LX models get remote keyless entry, and all Pilots get new front airbag sensors and a new steering wheel design. Finally, three new exterior colors are added: Desert Rock, Steel Blue and Billet Silver.

Advantages of the 2005 Honda Pilot:

  • Five-star crash test scores for front and side protection
  • Exceptional build quality
  • Outstanding outward visibility
  • Thoughtful interior storage solutions
  • Control layout and operation

Objections to the 2005 Honda Pilot:

  • Front seat comfort is average at best
  • Third-row seat is for kids only
  • No side curtain airbags available

Editor's Advice:
For the daily-driver chores most SUVs face in the suburbs of America, the right-sized Honda Pilot is a handy tool to have in the garage. It is extremely easy to drive, to see out of, and to use the controls. Thoughtful storage solutions litter the cabin, and five adults can ride inside, though the front seats are not particularly comfortable. Folding the seats to maximize cargo capacity is a snap, and the third-row bench can accommodate the neighbor's kids for an afternoon trek to the local Gymboree. This year's bump up in power is good news, and a host of changes keep the 2005 Honda Pilot feeling fresh. Add to this form and functionality a slew of excellent crash test scores and Honda's deserved reputation for durability, and it's easy to see why so many Americans like the 2005 Honda Pilot.
