What's New for the 2004 Hyundai Accent?
After a freshening for the 2003 model year, the 2004 Hyundai Accent sees no changes.

Advantages of the 2004 Hyundai Accent:

  • Low price
  • Side-impact airbags
  • Ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty
  • Available hatchback utility

Objections to the 2004 Hyundai Accent:

  • Cheap interior materials
  • Underachieving 103-horsepower engine
  • Iffy handling, especially at speed

Editor's Advice:
The 2004 Hyundai Accent impresses with its low price tag, standard side-impact airbags and comforting powertrain warranty. Hatchbacks come in Base, GL and GT trim, while sedans are available as GL models only. All Hyundai Accents have a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Base models are equipped with power steering, a rear defroster, a cassette player, a cargo light and little else. Buyers of the GL can enjoy air conditioning, a handy driver’s armrest, a clock and tinted glass. Power windows, power door locks, power mirrors and a CD player are optional on the GL. The Accent GT includes larger 14-inch alloy wheels with P185/60R14 tires, a sport-tuned suspension, fog lights, a spoiler, white-faced gauges and leather trim for the steering wheel and shift knob. As is expected in a car at this price, interior materials are nothing to praise and the 103-horsepower engine is taxed even by the Hyundai Accent’s low curb weight. Base and GL models exhibit nervous handling, too. Our recommendation is the Accent GT if for no other reason than to get the firmer suspension, but at that point why not consider the much better Ford Focus ZX3 instead?
